History and University.

WCSU is also home to the Goodall Center for Excellence in Environmental Studies, which is the results of a partnership between WCSU and therefore the Goodall Institute (a personal non profit organization that promotes analysis, education and wildlife conservation). The university’s Westside field conjointly homes the Ives Concert Park, one of the premier performance venues within the area.Western started as a teachers' college, training the primary and lycee educators for Connecticut's Fairfield County and encompassing areas. The school's name has changed over the years as it has targeted on further areas of study. First named the Danbury traditional college, in the 1950s it had been known as the Danbury State normal school. The college was renamed Danbury State faculty in 1959, then Western Connecticut State College in 1967,  In 2011, governance of the University was transferred to 


In 2012, the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso visited the university for 2 public talks. WCSU became home to the Center for Compassion, Creativity and Innovation, and is now formally one of 2 universities within the country to be recognized as a “University of Compassion” by the Compassion Action Network. The Sikyong  at the university's midtown field earlier that year.
